After producing quality animation for over a decade, DePatie-Freleng Enterprises buckled under the rising production cost of animation and sold the company to Marvel Productions.
To launch this new studio, Marvel Productions created a new Spider-Man television series, the first new series for Spider-Man since 1967. Spider-Man debuted in syndication on September 12, 1981 and ran 26 episodes until March 6, 1982.
While this series is often overshadowed by its sequel, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, fans will agree that this series on one of Spidey's best due to the faithful treatment of the character, villains and stories.
