Spectacular Spider-Man Animatics

I recently stumbled across animator/storyboard artist Sahin Ersoz's webpage in which he has uploaded a few animatics of his storyboards from his work on Spectacular Spider-Man. It is always fun to see some unfinished animation, and this is about as unfinished as it gets!

  • Promo Trailer
  • Act three of Survival of the Fittest
  • The main battle between Spidey and Venom in Identity Crisis
  • The Doctor Octopus/Silvermane brawl from Gangland

  • Ersoz's work is really amazing! These sequences are well thought out and full of dynamic action! I really think that storyboard artists are the driving force behind a lot of animation and they often don't get the credit they deserve.

    FUN STUFF!

In an attempt to make this site more interactive, I have created this new section that includes some fun games and articles for you to enjoy!

    SUPERHERO CAGE MATCH!

Hero vs. Hero! Villain vs. Villain! Hero vs. Villain! Two superpowered beings will face off in a battle and you decide the winner! The champion encounters a new challenger every Thursday!

    ADVENTURES IN THE DCAU!

You know Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. Heck, you probably even know Calendar Girl, Shatterfist and Gsptlsnz! But do you know the ordinary, non-superpowered humans that appear only once in the DC Animated Universe! Test your skill and prove that you are a true DCAU geek!

    A PICTORIAL HISTORY

Explore the evolution of your favourite Marvel and DC characters as they have appeared in the past sixty years of animation! Which versions are your favourite?

  • Doctor Doom
  • Hulk
  • Iron Man
  • Lex Luthor
  • Scarecrow

  • Do you have any ideas to make this website more fun? Leave a comment!

    Superhero Cage Match!

Round Two: Sabretooth (X-Men) vs. Clayface (Batman: TAS)

Who would win in a battle between these two classic characters? Leave a comment explaining why they win and check back next Thursday for the next round!

Don't just pick your favourite of the two! Take into consideration which version of this character is pictured above and base your vote on that! For instance, I could pit the Batman: TAS version of the Joker against The Batman version of the Joker.

Be creative and have fun, but please keep your language under control!

Sabretooth proves that he's got what it takes to take down B'wana Beast! Here are what some people are saying:

Sabretooth is one of the toughest villains in Marvel. His healing power and super strength alone could take down the fantastic four. Plus the fact that he is a totally ruthless sociopath. BATB's Bwana Beast would have to make superanimals super fast just to keep up. ~Callum

I'm going with Sabertooth. He would slice his way through whatever animals B'wana could find. ~eli

    Adventures in the DCAU!

Here is a game for those of you who think you know everything about the DC Animated Universe! I have chosen a normal human character that only appears in one episode of a DCAU series:

    This one may be difficult!

Can you identify this person? In order for you to be the winner, you have to identify the show, the episode, and the character's name. Contest is open to the whole world, however there are no prizes, only the satisfaction of knowing that you are a DCAU geek.

A new character will be posted once the current one is identified.

Tyler correctly identified this DC Animated Universe character as Lois Lane's father Col. Sam Lane, but it was Dan from Vestal who not only identified the character but knew that it was from the Superman: the Animated Series episode Monkey Fun. Good job!

Crisis Special Features and Box Art - Plus the Title of the Next DC Animated Movie!

More information for the upcoming DVD movie, Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, has been revealed! The 2-disc DVD and Blu-ray, which will hit the stores on February 23, will include the following special features:

  • DC Showcase: The Spectre
  • A First Look at Batman: Under the Red Hood
  • Green Lantern First Look
  • Superman/Batman: Public Enemies First Look
  • Wonder Woman: The Amazon Princess
  • The New World Featurette (Blu-ray contains a special Extended Cut)
  • Bruce Timm's Top Picks: JLU episodes A Better World, Parts 1 and 2, Twilight, Parts 1 and 2
  • DC TV pilot episodes (live-action) Wonder Woman, Aquaman
  • Trailers
  • Digital Copy Online

  • There are a few things worthy of greater attention:

    DC Showcase: The Spectre

The Spectre gets his moment in the spotlight in the first of what will hopefully be a long line of animated shorts!

A First Look at Batman: Under the Red Hood

The next DC animated movie will star the Dark Knight and feature the Red Hood who, if you don't know already, was the Joker before his chemical bath. This could be a Joker origin story, an adaptation of the popular Killing Joke story with a more PG title, or it could be an adaptation of Under the Hood, a recent Batman story in which Jason Todd, a former Robin who got beaten to death by the Joker, comes back from the grave under the guise of the Red Hood. I'm guessing the former.

DC TV pilot episodes (live-action) Wonder Woman, Aquaman

Just to clarify, the Wonder Woman pilot is from the classic 1976 series starring Linda Carter, and the Aquaman pilot is the canceled Smallville spin-off, Mercy Reef. Why they are on this DVD/Blu-ray is beyond me.

Captain Marvel on Brave and the Bold

Lucky IGN.com gets a lot of neat exclusives. Now, they have an exclusive clip of Captain Marvel's debut appearance in an upcoming season two episode of Batman: the Brave and the Bold! Lucky for us, IGN allows video embedding, so here it is for all of you to enjoy!

Captain Marvel will be voiced by Jeff Bennett, and Billy Batson by Tara Strong.

It is interesting to note that it looks like the designs of Billy Batson and Captain Marvel are updated designs from Filmation's Kid Super Power Hour with Shazam. An excellent homage.

    Inside the Outsiders!

    Season: 1
    Episode Number: 25
    Season Episode Number: 25
    Production Number: 126
    Airdate: August 8, 2009

    Writer: Alex Van Dyne
    Director: Brandon Vietti

Voices: Diedrich Bader (Batman), Bumper Robinson (Black Lightning), Scott Menville (Metemorpho), Kim Mai Guest (Katana), Armin Shimerman (Psycho-Pirate), Paul Nakauchi (Takahiro, Takeo), James Arnold Taylor (Green Arrow), Nika Futterman (Catwoman), Unknown (Cat Thug), Unknown (Man on cell).

Plot: Batman must travel into the minds of the Outsiders in order to save them from the malicious Psycho-Pirate who feeds of their rage as a source of strength.

Teaser: Green Arrow and Batman are caught in a death trap set by Catwoman.

Review (Warning! Spoilers!): Batman is often known for only using violence when necessary, using his mind over anything to get the job done. But let's face it, this is an action show! We like seeing Batman beating up the bad guys! That being said, an episode specifically about reasoning and talking the way out of a fight doesn't make for the most exciting of episodes.

The version of Psycho-Pirate that is used in this episode is not the original Silver Age version, nor is it the revamped, post-Crisis version from the 80s. The version used here is from when Psycho-Pirate was an 'emotion vampire' as Batman put it, in the mid-90s. It was around this time that Psycho-Pirate tangled with the Outsiders on a number of occasions which is why they are foils in this episode.

Batman gets a bigger role in this episode. It seems that lately Bats has been getting overshadowed by the special guest or the villain (which is often the case in every Batman cartoon), but this episode puts Batman front and centre in a role that shows off his brilliant mind as well as his brilliant technical skills.

But this isn't a hard task since the Outsiders aren't very strong characters. Batman can't help but steal the spotlight.

The point of the Outsiders is that each member has been shunned by society, so they have banded together and formed a family of sorts. But the reason that they have been shunned by society is because each of them has some great character flaw. So now we have a whole team of people with character flaws and in a show like Batman: The Brave and the Bold which doesn't feature strong continuity, they may learn something at the end of the episode, but the characters will be reset for their next appearance. This makes the Outsiders hard to like, in my opinion.

Anyway, this episode was fairly entertaining, humourous in parts, but overall, since I'm not a fan of the way they are writing the Outsiders, this episode fell a bit flat.

If only the episode's teaser would have carried through the whole 22 minutes! The intro to this version of Catwoman was marvelous! The report between Batman and Catwoman is thick, hinting at a long, complicated past that is begging to be explored by this show! I'm sure we'll see more of her in season two!

Doctor Doom hasn't really changed his appearance drastically over the last fifty years, but every artist has their own way to draw him and not all of them look good!

I find it interesting how many different shades of green have been used for Doom's cloak. I mean, green is green, right? I guess not.

Take a look at this pictorial history of Doctor Doom and let me know which one is your favourite!
