Black Panther is a joint project between Marvel Animation and the BET Network. Reginald Hudlin, the CEO of BET at the time this series was in production, was the writer for the Black Panther comic book from 2004-2009. His first storyarc, Who is the Black Panther became a hit in the comic book world and it wasn't long before Hudlin chose to adapt that story into an animated series.
The six-episode mini-series directly adapts the six-issue storyarc with minor changes. The artwork is lifted directly from the panels of John Romita, Jr.'s comic book art and animated using Flash by Titmouse Animation.
