Episode Number: 1a
Season Episode Number: 1a
Voices: John Vernon (Iron Man), Bernard Cowan (Narrator), (Newsman), (Jack Frost), (Officer), (Mike), (Announcer).
Plot: While on the racetrack, the battery keeping Tony Stark's heart pumping is running out of power.
Review (Warning! Spoilers!): The first episode of the Invincible Iron Man segment is based on Tales of Suspense #45, 1963, and it features Iron Man in his classic gold MK II armour, rather than the red and gold MK IV armour we see in the theme song. I can only assume that the progression of this series will reveal new armour.
This chapter doesn't follow the issue in a linear fashion like the Hulk or Cap segments. It shuffles the scenes around to tell the story better, and it includes a subplot about an air tunnel that is not in the original issue. I'm not sure where it's from but I assume it's an earlier issue of Tales of Suspense.
The mysterious Professor Shapanka will, in the next chapter, turn into the villain Jack Frost. This is revealed in the original comic title, The Icy Fingers of Jack Frost.
Gregor Shapanka will return in the 80s under the alias Blizzard. Later his costume would be given to Donnie Gill who has become the Blizzard that the modern fans know.
Tony was big into car racing but has sort of lost that hobby in the modern comics. So it is nice to see him enjoying it here, even if it looks like it's going to kill him!
