Superman/Batman: Apocalypse DVD Cover Art on Other Info

Official word has come down the pipeline about Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, the next in the line of direct-to-DVD DC Universe Animated Original Movies. The feature length film is due out September 28 on DVD, Blu-ray and various digital outlets.

Based on this cover art, rumours of this DVD being an adaptation of the second Superman/Batman storyarc are confirmed. Also confirmed is that Green Arrow will be the star of this round's DC Showcase.

Tim Daily and Kevin Conroy will reprise their roles as Superman and Batman from the first entry in the Superman/Batman franchise, Public Enemies.

According to TVGuide.com, added to the voice cast is Summer Glau (Firefly, Terminator: Sarah Conner Chronicles) who will be playing Supergirl!

The article notes that Glau will be the fifth Firefly cast member to be part of a Bruce Timm production. Here are the others:

  • Nathan Fillion as Steve Trevor (Wonder Woman), and Vigilante (Justice League)
  • Adam Baldwin as Superman (Superman: Doomsday), and Benjamin Knox, Jonah Hex and Hal Jordan (Justice League)
  • Gina Torres as Superwoman (Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths) and Vixen (Justice League)
  • Morena Baccarin as Black Canary (Justice League)

I like the cover art a lot. I am also quite excited that Tim Daily and Kevin Conroy are reprising their roles again. I am also happy that this movie will be coming out within 2 months after Batman: Under the Red Hood. (Marvel is really falling behind in regards to direct to DVD movies) I will definitely be buying this when it comes out. Green Arrow is pretty cool for the showcase.

Marvel had a contract with Lionsgate for only eight movies and they have not renewed or extended the contract. Thor: Tales of Asgard will be the final of the eight. It doesn't look like there will be any more under this partnership.

DC has the advantage of being owned by Warner Bros who has their own animation studio. This is why they are still going strong with the DVD releases.

Hopefully, now that Marvel is owned by Disney, we will start to see some more animated movies! But there is no word on this yet.

I'm glad to see another Superman story, and as modern ones go, this is a pretty good one. I just hope they stop with the Superman/Batman stuff before they get into the crap stories the comic got into.

I'm also curious to find out who's voicing Darkseid. Hopefully, like the other voices, they'll go back to the Justice League voices and get Michael Ironside. He is my definitive voice of Darkseid, much like Daly is my definitive voice of Supes.

Green arrow animated short! Yes! But another superman batman film? Ah well, I enjoyed the first one, just wish there were more solo outings for other heroes who haven't had much exposure. But what is this? Like the third dtv from dc this year?

Thank heavens Supergirl has those long sleeves - the poor thing might catch cold.
