This past weekend, Marvel Animation hosted a panel at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) and Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada and Director of Development Josh Fine were on hand to talk about upcoming cartoons and to answer questions. Here are some of the highlights:
AVENGERS: EARTH'S MIGHTIEST HEROESA new trailer was screened that featured the core team: Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Wasp, Ant Man, Hulk and Black Panther. A slideshow revealed some of the villains and heroes we will see in the 26 season one episodes: Hawkeye, Ultron, Black Widow, Kang the Conqueror, Baron Strucker, Red Skull, Madame Hydra, Arnim Zola, Loki and Enchantress.
"If you've been a fan of Marvel Animation for any amount of time, this is bigger than anything we've ever done," said Joshua Fine. "It's really the classic Avengers show that you've been waiting for all your life because there's never really been one that I would say fit the Avengers mold very well. As you can see by our poster, it's the original team we're going with."
THE SUPER HERO SQUAD SHOWQuesada announced that season two of the
Super Hero Squad Show is going cosmic! He mentioned that fans will get to see Bucky, Captain Marvel, Hercules, Zeus, and "a lot more that hardcore Marvel fans will enjoy. We're going to introduce a lot of young viewers to these great new characters."
A fan asked Quesada why Spider-Man hasn't been included on
The Super Hero Squad Show. Quesada said the character didn't exactly fit with the second season's focus on the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe. "There will be some fun, funky, inter-dimensional crazy things in season two. Once we decided to go cosmic, Spider-Man felt a little less natural than that."
IRON MAN: ARMORED ADVENTURESQuesada mentioned the new 26-episode season of
Iron Man: Armored Adventures. "It's epic. There is more armor per square-minute than you can imagine."
ULTIMATE SPIDER-MANThere was much talk about the recently announced
Ultimate Spider-Man animated series. "It's a pretty surprising show — a little bit different than most Spider-Man shows over the course of our history," said Quesada. "It'll put Peter Parker in some pretty weird and unusual circumstances."
The show is already well into development and will come to Disney XD in 2011.
A fan asked how this show would affect the future of
Spectacular Spider-Man, to which the panel said there should be an official press release from Sony on the subject very soon. However, Fine did say that the cancellation was a result of Sony relinquishing the rights to Spider-Man back to Marvel.
BLACK PANTHERA fan asked when
Black Panther would premiere in the United States. "You will eventually see it," said Quesada. "Those are the inner workings and dealings that I can't publicly talk about, but you will see it and you will be happy about it. It's really wonderful." Fine said that the reasons of the hold up are due to legal issues and that there would be news about its premiere soon.
MARVEL ANIMEWe haven't heard anything about
Marvel Anime since it was announced last year, but Quesada did talk about the four 12-episode series, two of which are based on
Iron Man and
Wolverine. He reminded the audience that each series is being developed for a Japanese market and will not be direct adaptations of the American comics. Quesada promised that more details would be revealed soon.
WOLVERINE AND THE X-MENFine revealed that the reason behind the recent cancellation of
Wolverine and the X-Men is due to a funding partnership breakdown. He noted that they tried to work it out, but it didn't happen.

Warner Home Video has announced a follow-up to January's . The remaining eight one-hour episodes from the classic superhero show's first season from 1973.
