A Hulk Marathon on Toon Disney

June 6th, 2008 will be a special day for Hulk fans as Toon Disney is planning a marathon of episodes from the 1996 Incredible Hulk! The first two episodes of the series plus one guest starring Iron Man and one guest starting Thor will make up the two-hour marathon. Check out the episode list below.

Friday, June 6th, 7:00pm (ET) - Return of the Beast, Part 1
Friday, June 6th, 7:30pm (ET) - Return of the Beast, Part 2
Friday, June 6th, 8:00pm (ET) - Helping Hand, Iron Fist
Friday, June 6th, 8:30pm (ET) - Mortal Bounds

This is, without a doubt, a tie-in to the Hulk movie that is coming out a week later on June 13. And the Iron Man guest star is, without a doubt, to capitalize on the recent Iron Man movie.

It's great the Disney is airing the Marvel animation library (Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends is currently on the schedule) but I really wish that they would commit to some nice DVD season sets.

  Greg Rucka on Gotham Knight

Superhero Hype had posted an exclusive interview with Greg Rucka, writer of the Crossfire segment of the upcoming Batman: Gotham Knight feature film.

The image of Batman coming through flaming wreckage was pretty much exactly as I wanted it. I really was trying to get the psychological impact of seeing this man, who maybe isn't a man if you don't know, coming through the flames – literally a walking, talking, burning bush, standing and staring the villain down. If somebody was staring me down from the middle of flames, they could have anything they want. I think the animators executed that really well.

Warner Bros. has launched the Gotham Knight website as well as a Facebook and Myspace site to promote the movie which comes out on DVD and Blu-Ray on June 8.

  What's Tony's Ringtone?
I went to see Iron Man on opening night last week, and aside from it being a totally awesome movie, there was one other thing that got me excited.

Tony Stark's ringtone was the theme song from the Iron Man segment of The Marvel Superheroes from 1966! I know that you would have to be a huge geek to know this, but I heard it a few other times throughout the movie worked into the background music.

  Brian Azzarello on Gotham Knight

Superherohype.com has posted a good interview with Brian Azzarello, comic book writer and writer of the Working Through Pain segment of the upcoming Batman: Gotham Knight DVD.

I liked the film – it's a very interesting take on the Batman character. It holds together cohesively, yet each episode is strikingly different. And I loved (my segment) – it's great. I really liked the animation. It was fascinating seeing my words moving around. When I write, I see it in print – I don't see it moving. So it was fun and it was a good experience.

Batman: Gotham Knight is the third release from DC Comics' PG-13 Direct-to-DVD series. It follows the Animatrix pattern and contains six short stories written by accomplished comic book writers like David Goyer, Greg Rucka and Alan Burnett and directed and animated by different Japanese animation studios.

Set that money aside because you're gonna want to pick this one up when it is released on July 8!

Mutants Everywhere! New Wolverine and the X-Men Trailer!
The cast expands in a big way.

Colossus! Angel! Blob! Rogue! Avalanche! Quicksilver! Scarlet Witch! Magneto! Iceman! Sentinels! Mystique! Polaris! Domino! Wolfsbane! Forge! Vertigo! Gambit! Pyro! Maverick! Dust! Spiral! Mojo! ...and Hulk?

These are a few of the many mutants in the new trailer for Wolverine and the X-Men that Marvel posted an their site yesterday. Check it out! It makes this show look real good! You get to hear a lot of the characters' voices, a lot sounding like their movie counterparts. The animation looks clean and smooth and the story is gonna be epic!

It also seems that Emma Frost will have her secondary mutation, her diamond form, but Beast doesn't seem to have received his yet.

This trailer has made me quite a bit more excited about this show. After seeing Marvel bomb several of their shows in the 90s due to ultra campyness, it's nice to see them treating their shows these days as seriously as Bruce Timm and Paul Dini treated Batman: the Animated Series.

X-Men and Iron Man heading to Nicktoons

Wolverine and the X-Men promo art

I know I'm a few months behind on this breaking news but, hey, I'm new here. To coincide with the upcoming movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Marvel has partnered up with Toonz Entertainment and First Serve International to produce 26 episodes of a brand new X-Men cartoon series that will be aired on Nicktoons in early 2009. Here's the official promo:

"Wolverine and the X-Men"
The story begins as an explosive event shatters the lives of the X-Men and takes away their mentor, Professor X. The beaten heroes, including Beast, Storm, Cyclops and Nightcrawler, walk away from it all but then they are given a rare glimpse into the future, where they see a world in utter ruin…ruled by giant destructive robots. They discover the world has spiraled out of control because the X-Men have given up. So now the most legendary of all X-Men, Wolverine, must take the lead on the ultimate mission--to prevent the world's destruction—while fending off enemies Magneto and The Brotherhood.

This looks like it has real potential. The character designs are sharp and accurately represent the team's current costumes. It also looks like they are trying to capitalize on the success of the Astonishing X-Men comic book as the cast from that book is featured in the promo art (Cyclops, Wolverine, White Queen, Beast and Shadowcat) along with Storm and Nightcrawler.

If you haven't seen it yet, take a look on youtube for a trailer that will give you a feel for the animation and a look at some of the other characters that will be featured in this series.

Iron Man the Animated Series promo art

Hot on the trail of the blockbuster feature film, Iron Man will be featured in a new animated series. This will be the third time that Shell Head will be featured in his own series, having already been featured in a segment of 1966's The Marvel Superheroes and in Iron Man, part of the Marvel Action Hour in 1996.

"Iron Man: The Animated Series"
Tony Stark, heir to a billion-dollar corporation, lives a life of luxury, free to pursue his chief interests—seeking extreme thrills, solving scientific mysteries and creating mind-boggling inventions. But everything goes horribly wrong when a tragic accident robs Tony of his father and nearly costs him his own life. Now dependent on his own impressive technology for survival and dedicated to battling corruption, Tony must reconcile the pressure of teenage life with the duties of a Super Hero. Inside his remarkable invention, Tony Stark is geared for high-speed flight, high-tech battles and high-octane adventure! He is Iron Man.

Like Wolverine and the X-Men, this series will also contain 26 episodes and will premiere on Nicktoons in early 2009. Iron Man: the Animated Series is produced by Marvel Entertainment and Method Films.

There is some speculation whether or not Tony Stark will be a teenager in the series. Marvel found success with the teen version of the X-Men in X-Men: Evolution and is currently getting good ratings with the teen version of Spider-Man in Spectacular Spider-Man so it wouldn't surprise me if they try the same formula again. I hope it works.
