Morningstar has announced two special upcoming releases. Two 3-disc box sets featuring episodes from Marvel Super Heroes, 1967 Spider-Man, 1981 Spider-Man and 1978 Fantastic Four.

The second release is Villains Showdown and will include another three volumes of the Marvel Comics Video Library (Spider-Man vs. Doctor Octopus has already been released separately):

Get the First Episode of Armored Adventures at Wal-Mart!
In this day and age, many retail chains are packaging their new DVD releases with extra goodies to make you want to buy it from them. Leading the pack is Best Buy who usually has some pretty good extra stuff.
But if any of you are thinking of picking up the Iron Man DVD which comes out on Tuesday, you may want to consider Wal-Mart. Why? Because packaged with the DVD as a bonus disc will be the entire first episode of Iron Man: Armored Adventures which is set to debut on Nicktoons in 2009. Colour me all over that!
BTW: Best Buy is packaging the David Hasselhoff Nick Fury TV movie with Iron Man.
The next release in Morningstar Entertainment's line of DVD re-releases of the old Marvel Video Library is Spider-Woman vs. the Fly which will hit Canadian retailers on October 14!
The DVD will include one episode of the 1979 Spider-Woman series, The Spider-Woman and the Fly, along with a bonus episode from the 1967 Spider-Man series, The Spider and the Fly/The Slippery Doctor Von Schlick.
Warner Home Video held their annual Home Theater Forum chat on Monday. And while the chat covered every television to DVD question under the sun, there were a few tidbits about superhero animation that are of great importance.
The Batman Beyond spin-off series The Zeta Project will be released in 2009! This is great news for fans who have been asking for the show's two seasons on DVD for years! However, the chat doesn't reveal how these DVDs will be released. Will they be season sets or a single disc release containing four or five episodes? Time will tell. And after time tells me, I'll tell you!
The Zeta Project was a short lived animated series from 2001-2002. There was even a Batman Beyond/Zeta Project crossover, the first episode of which has been released on Batman Beyond - Season Three. Now fans can see how the story ends!
The voice of Zeta is none other than the upcoming voice of Batman for Brave and the Bold, Diedrich Bader.
Other news from the chat: WHV plans to release all of the DC Comics animation library. This includes the rest of the Super Friends seasons, the Ruby/Spears Superman and the rest of the Filmation seasons.
WHV also hinted at a complete series collection for Superman: the Animated Series, a Batman: Mask of the Phantasm special edition and Batman: the Animated Series on Blu-ray.
And here is some other news that is not Marvel or DC related but that I am super excited about: Powerpuff Girls - the Complete Series and remastered classic MGM theatrical shorts collections! I think I just pooed a little in my pants.
An article on Associated Press reports that the CEO of BET (Black Entertainment Television), Reginald Hudlin, has stepped down this week.
Hudlin was an important player in making BET one of the top TV stations aimed at the black demographic. He produced hit shows such as Boondocks, Everybody Hates Chris, and Lil' Kim.
But what does this mean for the Black Panther series that he is co-producing with BET and Marvel? My guess is that the show is already done as it is supposed to air in October. But none of the articles I have read mention anything about it. I'm hoping it is still a go.
It took me three days to track down a copy of Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow but I finally found a copy and promptly handed over my money.
I went to two Best Buys, a Futureshop, HMV and Superstore and no one had this movie out for sale on Wednesday, September 9 when it was supposed to be released or the next two days. When I asked a staff member at about the DVD at each location, no one even knew what I was talking about. It wasn't until yesterday (Thursday) that someone finally found one in the store room (not out for sale) for me to buy.
I really hope this is only the case in the few stores in Vancouver that the movie was not out for sale (and I hope those stores are putting out their copies soon), otherwise it will seriously hurt the numbers, and you know how picky Lionsgate is about numbers.
Here is some more Wolverine and the X-Men news. Is anyone getting tired of this show yet? Not me!
I found a few character designs for the show that feature the cast for some upcoming episodes. The lineup pictured above features Nick Fury (Ultimates version), Bruce Banner, Wolverine and the Hulk from the show's seventh episode, Wolverine vs. the Hulk.
It looks like Weapon X will be the focus of an upcoming episode. This lineup features Wolverine, Maverick, Mystique, X-23, a Weapon X agent and Dr. Cornelius.
UPDATE: Eagle-Man suggests that the "Weapon X agent" could actually be Maverick's modern alias, Agent Zero.
The fourth episode, Overflow, takes the team to Africa. Here you see Emma Frost, Storm in her African attire and the Shadow King.
Now this one is a little more tricky. I'm not too sure who some of these mutants are. Could the first one be Proteus? The little girl could be Layla? I'm not sure who the two dressed in M and 1 suits are. But I do know that the next girl is Blink (one of my favourite characters) and Juggernaut.
Let em know if you can identify any of these mutants!
UPDATE: Eagle-Man has let me know that the two in the M and 1 suits could be the Kleinstock Brothers who are three that can merge into one.
UPDATE: Treebs has identified the little girl as Tilde Soames, a little girl whose nightmares come to life. The big pink guy? Yeah, that's her nightmare.
The Deadpool Bugle has posted a short clip of Deadpool from a special sneak preview of Hulk Vs. found on the Next Avengers dvd.
Deadpool has never been used in animation before now due to the violent nature of his character. The censors would never allow an assassin on a children's cartoon and they especially wouldn't allow one with the word DEAD in their name. (Deathstroke was renamed Slade for the Teen Titans animated series.
Censors are a tricky thing. A lot of shows, especially the Marvel cartoons of the 90s, are not even allowed to have characters say DEAD, DEATH or KILL in reference to what is going to happen to another character. You will hear Spider-Man say "You'll destroy him" or the Green Goblin say "I'll finish you off next" but never actually say that someone will be killed. (Peter Parker couldn't even say that his Uncle Ben died. He always found some other way to say it.)
This direct-to-dvd is a perfect venue for Deadpool as the PG-13 rating will allow him to be true to his character...and retain his name! How goofy would it be if everyone called him Wade?
Wolverine returns to his home roots tomorrow night as his new show Wolverine and the X-Men debuts on YTV at 7pm with the first episode, Hindsight, Part One!
As a Canadian, I am super excited about this. The show looks very promising and I hope to have a full review on the first episode as soon as I can.
Sorry Americans! You'll have to download it or something.
Today is the day that may determine the fate of the Marvel Animated Features. Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow hits all major retail outlets today.
After underwhelming sales from the Doctor Strange DVD that came out a year ago, Lionsgate is hoping to see better results with Next Avengers. Lionsgate's contract with Marvel states that they can pull out at any time if they feel that the movies are not meeting their expectations.
Basically, if this DVD sells well, we'll see more movies. 'Nuff Said.
I will play my part and pick up this film, not because I want to see Next Avengers 2, but because I want to see a bright future for Marvel animated movies!
