      R.I.P. Tony Peters

I just read that animation writer Antony Peters passed away last Sunday in New York. Peters is best known for his work as a designer for Rankin/Bass' Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. In fact, he was a big help in the development of the stop-motion animation process that Rankin/Bass called Animagic.

Peters worked for Grantray-Lawrence Animation in the mid 60s developing Rocket Robinhood and was one of the writers responsible for adapting comic book stories for The Marvel Super Hero Show.

If you want to learn more about Tony Peters and what he contributed to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, I recommend reading Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Making of the Rankin/Bass Holiday Classic.

First Look at Superman/Batman: Public Enemies

A trailer for Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, the next in the line of DC Universe Animated Original Movies, has now been released, and it looks amazing!

Loaded with action and more villains than you can shake a fist at, this looks like it is going to be a wild ride! Plus, the character designs, based on the work of Ed McGuiness, look real sharp!

UPDATE: Warner Bros. has taken the trailer off of youtube. I guess it wasn't supposed to be released quite yet. Consider yourself lucky if you got to see it! I'll let you know when the trailer is officially released!

UPDATE #2: Here it is again. Let's see how long this one stays up before Warner Bros finds out.

Plastic Man Stretches His Way to DVD!

Warner Home Video has released an eFlyer with some very exciting news! (Click the image for the eFlyer.)

Hot off the Batman: The Brave and the Bold popularity bandwagon, and only one week after Plastic Man's DVD debut, Warner Home Video will be releasing the complete Plastic Man Comedy/Adventure Show on September 1 in a four-disc package! The news of a Plastic Man DVD was rumoured last October and now it finally looks like a dream come true!

In case you are not familiar with this show, the Plastic Man Comedy/Adventure Show debuted in 1979 and was an hour long program produced by Ruby/Spears and Hanna-Barbera. The two hour show featured one 30 minute and one 15 minute episode starring Plastic Man as well as another hour and fifteen minutes of other non-superhero cartoons such as Mighty Man & Yukk, Fangface and Fangpuss, and Rickety Rocket.

All thirty-two of the Plastic Man segments will be included in this set, plus the three 15 minute episodes made for the following season (which was renamed Plastic Man - Baby Plas Super Comedy Show). The Plastic Family and Baby Plas segments from the Plastic Man - Baby Plas Super Comedy Show are not included on this set.

Bonus features include a featurette on the history of Plastic Man, as well as Puddle Trouble, the unaired pilot episode from the failed Plastic Man animated series from Cartoon Network!

I don't know about you, but I'll be first in line for this box set!

      Three DVD Announcements

I have three DVD announcements to share with you today and they all have to do with Batman:

ITEM! Warner Bros is re-releasing two Batman features in one DVD package. The Batman/Superman Movie, which collects the World's Finest three-part story arc from The New Batman Adventures, and The Batman vs. Dracula make up the content of The Batman Double Feature. This single disc includes all the special features found on the original releases and will hit stores August 11.

ITEM! Warner Bros is re-releasing two Scooby-Doo features in one DVD package, one of which is Scooby-Doo Meets Batman which collects the two episodes from The New Scooby-Doo Movies that feature Batman and Robin, voiced by Adam West and Burt Ward! This disc arrives August 11.

ITEM! The most exciting news of the day is the big reveal that Batman: the Brave and the Bold will be coming to DVD August 25! The single disc will include four episodes, Rise of the Blue Beetle, Terror on Dinosaur Island, Evil Under the Sea, and Invasion of the Secret Santas.

As usual, there will be a second and third single disc volume in the works and we probably won't see a full season set until after that. But if you can't wait, here is a fairly inexpensive way to whet your appetite. Click here to view the trailer.

Iron Man: Armored Adventures Episode Descriptions

Teletoon has released episode descriptions of all twenty-six Iron Man: Armored Adventures episodes. You can view these by visiting the Iron Man: Armored Adventures section at Teletoon.com, or you can read them below.

We've already read the first seven episode descriptions at Marvel Animation Age, and here are episodes eight through twenty-six:

    **WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS!**

    8. Field Trip

With a new prototype suit of stealth armor, Tony decides to sneak into Stark International and see what Obadiah Stane is up to. Problem is, the suit is untested and promptly goes dead inside S.I.. It's only a matter of time before Stane finds it, and Tony needs a plan fast. Enlisting the help of his friends, Tony needs to find a way to break into Stark International, get the armor, and get out before Stane notices – and without anyone realizing that Iron Man and Tony are one and the same.

    9. Ancient History 101

The search is on for the Makluan Rings, and Tony and his friends go back to square one = the site where Tony's dad found the first ring. But at the site, they find more than they bargained for, namely a test – and a guardian. Finding the ring is one thing, but you have to earn their power. And while Gene and Rhodey learn the secret history of the Makluan Rings, Tony and Pepper are in for the first of their lives against the ring's guardians – the Dreadknights.

    10. Ready, A.I.M., Fire!

It's career day at school, and while Rhodey and Pepper look for jobs, a job is looking for Tony. A group of scientists called the Advanced Idea Mechanics want Tony's help to invent a revolutionary new technology, and Tony's ego can't help but say 'yes.' But all is not as it seems with AIM, and when Tony completes their project, he inadvertently creates a new Super-villain – the Controller. Now Iron Man is forced to fight, not only against AIM – but against his controlled friends as well.

    11. Seeing Red

Obadiah Stane defeats and captures Iron Man by forcing Project Pegasus to use an upgraded version of the Crimson Dynamo armor to take him down. With his systems in lockdown, Tony is helpless inside as his armor is taken apart and analyzed piece by piece. Rhodey and Pepper go all out to bust him loose, but once freed, Tony's only got one thing on his mind – revenge. It's Iron Man versus Crimson Dynamo round two, but this time Iron Man's ready. Enter: the Dynamo Buster Armor.

    12. Masquerade

Obadiah Stane has totally lost it, and he's waging war on...Obidiah Stane? Iron Man goes to investigate, only to find that Stane isn't Stane at all, it's the identity stealing Madame Masque, and she doesn't want anyone getting in the way of her vendetta. The next thing Iron Man knows, he's being hunted by the police for crimes committed by Masque. Iron Man has to clear his name by exposing Masque, but her connections to Stane will shock even Iron Man.

    13. Hide And Seek

Tony and Gene find the third Makluan Ring, but this time Tony plays it smart – without awakening the ring's guardian, Tony takes the ring back to the city for study. But Gene has other ideas – and in order to possess the ring's power, he activates the guardian – Ultimo. But Ultimo isn't interesting in Gene, it only wants the ring. And now, not only does Iron Man have to deal with a giant robot in New York City, he's also about to have a rematch with the Mandarin.

    14. Man and Iron Man

Mister Fix is back, and this time he's equipped Whiplash with a virus designed to destroy Iron Man's armor from the inside out. Iron Man survives the attach, but something's gone wrong. Fix's virus has caused the armor to become sentient. It's alive, thinking for itself, and it intends to carry out it's primary objective – to protect Tony Stark from any and all danger, even if it means making Tony a prisoner inside the armor for the rest of his life.

    15. Panther's Prey

Iron Man is tracking the international thief named Moses Magnum right to AIM's secret headquarters, but someone else is after Magnum as well – the Black Panther. Magnum stole something that belongs to the Panther, and the Panther aims to get it back, even if he has to go through Iron Man to do it. Iron Man has to choose between helping Panther or taking down AIM, but for Panther there's no choice at all. Because the Black Panther has learned Iron Man's secret identity – and if Iron Man interferes, he'll tell the whole world.

    16. Fun With Lasers

The Living Laser is back and more dangerous than ever. He's increased his power, taken control of a space station, and has the world in his grasp, but can't think of anything to do with it. So he demands that Iron Man come fight him. Iron Man fully intends to do so, until he's stopped by Nick Fury and SHIELD, and international military operation. But Iron Man isn't sure who's more dangerous = because even if the Laser doesn't take Iron Man out, Nick Fury just might.

    17. Chasing Ghosts

A hit's been placed on Tony Stark, and the Ghost has come to collect. Tony can't even see the invisible and untouchable ghost coming – but he's got a guardian angel whether he likes it or not: Madame Masque. And while Madam Masque battles the Ghost to protect Tony, Tony finds himself pushing away Rhodey and Pepper to protect them. But when Masque is captured by the Ghost, Tony has to turn to the very friends he pushed away for help.

    18. Pepper, Interrupted

Pepper realizes that if she wants to keep Tony as a friend, she has to learn to start liking Gene Khan. Which is really inconvenient for Gene, because he's busy trying to negotiate peace as the Mandarin between his Tong forces and the Maggia. And of course Pepper lands smack in the middle of it. Now Gene has to somehow save Pepper from Count Nefaria and the Black Knight, all while keeping his own secret from everyone. Solution? Call Iron Man.

    19. Technovore

In a moment of anger, Tony created a weapon – a computer virus called Technovore. It was supposed to destroy itself when it completed its objective, but it didn't. Instead, the virus grew, spawned a horrific body, and began to hunger. It consumes every piece of technology that it comes across, growing and adapting as it prepares to go out into the world. That is, unless Iron Man and Rhodey can stop it. But where most villains see Iron Man as a challenge, Technovore sees him as a snack.

    20. World On Fire

The fourth Makluan Ring has been found, and when Tony, Rhodey and Pepper rush off to collect it, Gene is left behind. And while Gene tries to track down his 'friends,' he;s left alone with memories of his mother, the person who introduced him to his destiny – his birthright – the Makluan Rings. Actually claiming that birthright isn't so easy though, which Tony is finding out first hand. He's facing the fourth guardian – the Firebrand, which has taken possession of Pepper and Rhodey inside a live volcano. A live volcano, which is about to erupt.

    21. Designed Only for Chaos

The Living Laser is dying, and Tony Stark is trying to save his life. But fate has other plans – the Ghost has been hired by AIM to 'steal' the Laser. AIM needs him to be a power source for their greatest creation, and when Iron Man arrives to rescue the Laser, he's too late – the Mental Organism Designed Only for Conquest is online. Not even Iron Man can withstand MODOC's mental power, and now his fate rests in the hands of the Living Laser – but will the Laser choose to save Tony Stark? Or destroy Iron Man?

    22. Don't Worry, Be Happy

Tony finally convinces Rhodey to take the Iron Man armor out for a spin, with disastrous results. Rhodey is terrible at flying and abandons the armor, only to have the worst person on Earth find it – Happy Hogan. Happy puts on the armor, only to fall right into a Maggia plot that could destroy the city. Now Tony and Happy have to work together to save the city, all while Tony tries to get Happy out of the armored without blowing his secret identity. Plus: Rhoedy versus Traffic!

    23. Uncontrollable

The Hulk has landed in New York, and Pepper and Rhodey see that he's after someone - a kid named Rick Jones. Trouble is, Rick is being controlled - by The Controller. He's using Rick to manipulate the Hulk. The Controller wants revenge against AIM, and the Hulk is just the weapon to give it to him. When Iron Man arrives, he's able to free Rick, but at a great cost. The Controller now has Iron Man under his command, and it's up to Pepper and Rhodey to free time – with a little hep from their Incredible new friend.

    24. Best Served Cold

Whitney Stane is very, very sick and Obadiah Stane calls the one person who may be able to save his daughter: Tony Stark. Tony realizes a that a cure exists – but its in an abandoned Stark facility in the arctic – in the dead of winter. And while Iron Man secretly goes to retrieve the cure, Stane takes matters into his own hands – he thaws out Blizzard and forces him to go as well. But nothing's ever simply with Stane or Blizzard, and Iron Man's about to be caught between the two of them, while Whitney's life hangs in the balance.

    25. Tales of Suspense, Part One

Gene Khan wasn't always the Mandarin and the leader of the Tong – his step-father Zhang once held that title. Now Zhang is back for the Makluan Rings, and he'll stop at nothing to get them all. Zhang captures Gene, Tony, Pepper, and forces the location of the fifth ring from Tony. And while Tony Rhodey struggles to find his friends, Tony and Gene are faced with the fifth guardian – an ancient dragon by the name of Fin Fang Foom. But without Tony's armor and Gene's ring – what can kids do against a dragon?

    26. Tales of Suspense, Part Two

Secrets are revealed and friendships are destroyed forever as Rhodey dones the War Machine armor to save his friends from Zhang and Fin Fang Foom. With all five of the Makluan Rings now within Tony and Gene's reach, it's machine versus magic as Iron Man and War Machine fight against the dual threats of Fin Fang Foom and the Mandarin, in a battle that will change everything.
